Today's post is my entry in the 2025 SAQA Spotlight Auction.
The piece is titled "Daisy Chains and Tricycles".
All entries are 6" X 8" and will be displayed in mats with a 4.5" X 6.5" opening.
My piece started with a personal photo
of a child's tricycle, outgrown and abandoned to rust in the tall
grass. The photo was manipulate on the computer before being printed
on cotton fabric. Details of the tricycle and surrounding grass are
enhanced with embroidery. A fanciful splash of embroidery, vintage
lace, ribbon, beads and charms flow over the image to encourage the
viewer to be reminded of the sweet days of a playful childhood. The fabric photo has raw edges and is embroidered to it a fabric background
allowing a tiny piece of that background to show through once matted.

An idea of how the piece will look once matted.
My personal photo.
Embroidery details.
