Alzheimer's fidget quilts.

As I've mentioned many times on this blog I really love embellishments!  Because of this I'm always on the lookout for interesting fabrics, lace, buttons and beads,--- OK different and sometimes odd old STUFF.  I love treasure hunting at sales and thrift stores, the free table at guild and the castoffs from friends.  For the most part the goal is my crazy quilt pieces or other art quilt ideas.  But my collection also includes items that may be fun and cute but not the right scale to fit in some of my art.  I have found a good use for some of these pieces to be in fidget quilts usually used for Alzheimer Patients.

Below are some examples I've recently finished.  These fidget quilts are just a few ideas. I hope viewing these fidget quilts may inspire you to look through your stash for those fun extras that may make up into something that will make someone else's day.

Main things to remember when making fidget quilts-  Items need to be attached really well!  Everything must be washable. Safety before anything!

Let your own fabrics and stuff give you ideas. Need more inspiration, Pinterest is a great source of ideas.

Where to start- Find a location that may have a need and then ask them what would work best for them.

Different textures can be really interesting, It may be hard to see from these photos but I've used many different types of fabric in these quilts: flannel, cotton, polyester velvets, satin (backed with cotton), netting, canvas, lace, etc. 24" X30"

Ribbons, lace, yoyo's and various sizes of rick-rack. Those triangles are 3-D and the yellow fabric is all pintucks.

Notice the red strip fabric, it's shirt with the pocket.  Collars and cuffs can work to but watch the buttons. I cut the buttons off and just sew them in place on the quilt.

I hope this post may have inspired you to look into helping with this important cause.

Have a great day everyone!
