Grandbaby #2 Quilt

The quilt is a combination of two different Pinwheel designs.
First I have nine large pinwheel blocks. I have seen this block used many times and sometimes referred to as a double pinwheel. However, in my research I found the same block in Jinny Beyer's book "The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns by the name Double Quartet (page 67) from Grandmother Clark's Patchwork Quilt Designs, 1939.
For the second pinwheel block I have four 3-D pinwheels that I designed into the corners of the larger blocks. This type of pinwheel block is a design I had made with paper as a kid but you can also find it made in fabric online in many places.
The most important hint I have for dealing with the bulky seam intersection you have with blocks designs like these is to "spin" your seams at the bulky points.  The photo below shows you what this looks like. All you need to do is gently open up the seams by clipping a few stitches in the seam allowance and press in place. Videos and detailed directions can be found in may places online.
Don't you love that cute pinwheel the seams makes on the wrong side after you "spin" them.  When I moved on to the quilting I also added an X across the pinwheel by stitching in the ditch over the 3-D pinwheels.  It is still 3-D but not quite so puffy. I was also looking for it to strengthen the seams in this area.
Quilting was done on my domestic machine with a meandering hearts design.
Finished size 42" X 42", Flannel backing. 80/20 batting.

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful day!!
