Wedding Celebrations

It's always fun to work on a piece that will be a memory for someone's life milestones.  And, what bigger milestone than a wedding. I made this piece for a very special couple. I hope they realize all the love I'm sending with it.

The inspiration for this quilt is from a historical block design I found in: The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer.  I love all the wonderful possibilities within this book.

I found this block on page 254, it was shown with the name True Lover's Knot. Jinny Beyer attributes the block to "Capper's Weekly Feb. 27, 1931".

Below are photos of how I laid out the pieces for The True Lover's Knot on my design wall. I'm showing this to give you an idea of how I kept organized while making this quilt.

Since I was working from just looking at a sketch and a photo of a completed block (both included in the Beyer book) I needed to interpret that info to make my blocks. First, I made all the pieces for one block and label the pieces.  Next, I needed to experiment with sewing the pieces in proper order.  With one completed block I organized my work so I could easily make the rest of the blocks.

First you will see I used a letter for each piece.  On paper the letter told me the size of the piece.  The letter also told me the order: A connects to B, B connects to C, etc. Now making more blocks was easy to reference.

*As a final note: I'm including this explanation and photos as inspiration of how you can organize your projects.  This is not  a complete pattern.  As a pattern design this post is short on information such as piece sizes, fabric amounts, etc.  However I hope it does provide you with some useful information and inspiration.

Fabric is Weathered Tonals by Connecting Threads.
Quilting design is a Square Chain inspired by a design in Shape by Shape by Angela Walters  (also a great book).
Flannel Backing.
Blocks are 14.5" (16 blocks) with a sashing.  Finished size: 70.5" X 70.5".
Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful day!!
