I love making baby quilts because it's so fun to think of the sweet little ones that will be enjoying them. As we know it's not safe to use a quilt as baby bedding, but a quilt can still have many other uses. A baby quilt is fun to throw on the floor for them to crawl and roll on, it's great for car and stroller rides, and for cuddling up on your lap at story time. Many a baby quilt has been known to be a favorite comfort item way past the "baby" years.
Quilt number one, below, was made for a new member of our family. Because I was making up my own design I wasn't sure just what I needed for yardage. Of course, that meant I over bought. Thus, I have baby quilt number two which and a second new design.
I call this block design a variation of a log cabin? This is a simple block but using your fabric choices and the way you arrange you can add tons of personality to your block. All the strips are 2 .5". The quilt finishes at 46" X 46" with meandering machine quilting and flannel backing.
