Baby quilts are the best!!

I love making baby quilts because it's so fun to think of the sweet little ones that will be enjoying them.  As we know it's not safe to use a quilt as baby bedding, but a quilt can still have many other uses.  A baby quilt is fun to throw on the floor for them to crawl and roll on, it's great for car and stroller rides, and for cuddling up on your lap at story time.  Many a baby quilt has been known to be a favorite comfort item way past the "baby" years.

Quilt number one, below, was made for a new member of our family.  Because I was making up my own design I wasn't sure just what I needed for yardage. Of course, that meant I over bought.  Thus, I have baby quilt number two which and a second new design.

  QUILT #1

I call this block design a variation of a log cabin?  This is a simple block but using your fabric choices and the way you arrange you can add tons of personality to your block.

All the strips are 2 .5".  The quilt finishes at 46" X 46" with meandering machine quilting and flannel backing.

Quilt #2
  Quilt #2

Quilt  number two consists of two different block designs.  The first block is a variation of a 9 patch block.
The second block design I found in Jinny Beyer's book on historical block designs, The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns. Her book refers to this block design as, "Puss in the Corner" (page 128).  Her notations dates the block back to 1932.   I hope you will check out the Jinny Beyer's book for more information on this block as well as thousands of other great designs.
The quilt finishes at 40" X 40" with meandering machine quilting and flannel backing.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!!
