Sometimes I just get an idea in my head and I just have to see if I can make it work. This piece is one of those crazy ideas.
So
in my head what I was seeing was a cute wicker basket filled with
flowers sitting on a wonderful green lawn.
The
plan was a to use a simple2
. 5” block design to produce the flowers in a basket concept. Below is a photo of me working with 2 . 5” paper scrapes to test out my basket weave design ideas.
I used simple free motion quilting design of flowers and vines. Below are detail photos of the quilting on both the back and front .
The binding was also designed to be an extension of the
flowers and basket. Light blue in the one corner was meant to
represent blue sky peaking
through the basket. The green on the bottom is a bit of grass growing
around the bottom of the basket, and of course, flowers spilling over a top corner.
The
batting in this piece is flannel. I like using flannel for table runners as it is
thinner and lays flatter on the table. I
also like that the flannel is a bit heavier and I find that help sit stay in place
when on a outdoor table .
I
hope you enjoyed my piece. I like how it turned out and look forward
to using it indoors as well as on the picnic table.
Have a wonderful day!
