Table Runner and fun with free motion quilting

Today's post is a quick little table topper, I did this piece to practice my free motion quilting skills.
This project is a whole cloth piece, so no piecing. The pretty piece of fabric for the top was done with an ice dye technique. I was lucky to have a good friend show me how to ice dye several some years ago.
First I designed a grid that I stitch on to the fabric.  Then I tried to use a different free motion design for each area in the grid. Above you can see some of my simple doddles. I like to make notes to myself but not really draw my whole design out.
Below is a detail photo of the back. I used a purple thread on the black background so I would be able to see my quilting and note improvements I need to work on.
Sorry for the terrible photos! I just couldn't get the right light for a clear view of the work on the back.
The final piece is 20" X 23 .5"  with a piece of flannel for batting.  This piece is nothing super special but I hope the idea encourages you as a project for working on your machine quilting skills.
A detail of the top.
The beautiful balls of yarns are: Indiecita DK 100%Luxurious Baby Alpaca. They were a gift from my daughter when she visited Peru several years ago.  They are just to nice to use and I just like to leave them out in a basket to see and touch.  So Soft!!
The quilt on the sofa is one I made in 2016. My own scrappy design with machine quilting using a walking foot.  75" X 95" with a flannel back.

Hope your day is going Great!
