Today I am showing you a copy of my post for this month's Art Quilts Around the World challenge. Art Quilts Around the World is a group of 20 artists who submit pieces for a challenge every two months. This challenge was "something about your birth month".
I was so excited about this challenge because I had a photo from my childhood that immediately came to mind. I was born in April in Minnesota (US). At that time of year we are just coming out of winter. In Minnesota that means lots of snow and very cold. April is a time of looking forward to spring and green grass/flowers and time at the lake. In the photo I've decided to get a jump on the fishing season. I'm fishing hard from my wash tub "boat", in the biggest "lake", puddle I could find. I'm fairly sure we had hamburger for dinner, no fish.
The background is dyed with Tsukineko Inks. The house, tree, shed and telephone pole are fused appliqued with paint, crayon and free motion stitching.
The snow is white Tsukineko Inks. It is a bit thicker and has a shine. Free motion quilting in metallic like thread.
The main figure was built separate and added on top with a wool scrap for batting to give it depth. It has paint, pen, and free motion quilting.
Please consider stopping by Art Quilts Around The World to see the work of the other 19 artists from this group. https://aroundtheworldin20quilts.blogspot.com/
Hope you are having a wonderful day!
