Grandma's getting excited!

I'm over the moon and excited to soon be a new grandma!!
And, a new baby means,  BABY QUILT TIME!

I have no idea if  this baby is going to be a boy or girl so I tried to go very gender neutral. I do know the crib is white and the baby room is painted in a light gray.

I really loved the many chevron patterned quilts I saw on Pinterest.  I decided to do my own take on this wonderful design. I started by sizing the quilt based on the number of strips I had in my pre-cut jelly roll pack. I also wanted the chevron lines to extend all the way to the edges.  Finally, I wanted to add a border element.
My fabrics were 2 jelly rolls: Wilmington White Out and Wilmington Opel. Thanks to stores being closed I need to order fabric online.  That was a first for me so I decided to go the easy way and order pre-cuts. That idea worked great and I love the fabrics I found. However, I'm going to be happy to go to a real store sometime soon.
When it came to quilting I tried a new technique using pool noodles. In my old house I had a large table (the pool table) to lay out the quilt layers and pin together.  In our new house I needed a new solution. I had heard about using pool noodles and thought I'd give it a try.

I watched several videos on You Tube for instructions.
      Here are the basics:
*Roll your backing face DOWN onto a noodle,
*Roll your batting bumpy side DOWN on a noodle, (most bats have a right and wrong side.  The smooth side going next to your top)
* Roll quilt top face UP on a noodle.
*Layer the three as seen above
*Roll out a few inches  PIN-PIN-PIN, then unroll a bit more and repeat.
Run your hands from the center of the noodles out to flatten each time you unroll to work out any wrinkles.
Pull at the bottom layer to keep things tight and square.
It's not hard. I would suggest you watch a few You Tube videos.  I searched "quilting with pool noodles". My noodles are 50" long. I would say it works great for a small quilt. I found the back a bit loose. You really need to pull it a bit as you work to keep it tight and flat. I think I will still need a new technique for larger quilts, as this method still needs a large area to spread out on. My current work table is 60" wide. I think I will try again on  smaller pieces.  I guess time will tell so stay posted.
I quilted this piece on my domestic machine with a meandering lines and small hearts.
And, don't forget to add a special label. I'm very lucky to have embroidery letter stitches on my sewing machine for making personal labels.

Hope you are having a wonderful day!
