The Trickster-Colorado Trip 2018

The Trickster was inspired by a Steller's Jay(I hope I have that right) we meet on a trip to the Colorado Rockies. Smart and cute this little guy knew just how to lead a person on. Letting us get close and then right before we could snap a photo he'd hop about ten feet ahead and out of camera range. The game went on for quite awhile! In the end I got an O.K. photo, and a great memory.

This piece is constructed in layers.
1-first a hand dyed fabric (snow dye with procion dye---Thanks for the lesson Nancy!)
2-vintage linen
3-quilt batting
4-muslin stamped with Tsukineko Inks  and machine quilting accents.
5-lace with hand embroidery
6-Birds from wool and wool roving, machine thread painting and  added embellishments.
7- Real tree branch with hand made clay leaves.
Finished with raw edges, 22 1/2" X 12".

This photo inspired the stitch line for the mountain range.

My best photo of the Trickster.

Birds made from wool, wool roving and thread painting. Details of embroidery and bead eyes.
Piece of tree branch for the nest to sit on.
