Today I wanted to share a lap quilt I recently made using the leftovers fabrics from a larger quilt.
I made this queen size quilt for a family members wedding three years ago.
First the wedding quilt.
This quilt was made in a range of blue and purple batiks. The pattern is Double Rings by Char Hopeman and uses her Zig-Zag ruler. It was a great pattern and the ruler was easy to use and really fun. The pattern wasn't as large as I wanted so I did add more rows of blocks and some borders. My version of the quilt finished as a queen (sorry I gifted it before noting the exact measurements). I look forward to making another quilt with this excellent ruler.
With the leftover fabric from the above quilt I made this star design lap quilt.
The 2 1/2" squares and the rows of 1" strips are leftover from the wedding quilt.
Quilt design and block placement was determined by playing with the leftovers and blocks I had.
The main blocks are a traditional 8-pointed star design. The finished quilt is 61 1/" X 70".
The star blocks are 15 3/4" finished. Here is a little graph of how those stars were made.
The back is a soft flannel, great for relaxing on the sofa.
Quilted with various designs including large stars in the open blocks. Quilting was done on my domestic sewing machine.
