Cleaning

We had a beautiful weather this weekend so I decided I needed to get out and enjoy it.  Without any wind to deal with I was able to set my cutting table up outside.
I've been trying to cut down on my stash. Working a little at a time I've been cutting fabric into more usable pieces.
I decided I would cut small pieces of fabric into squares of 2 1/2" , 2",       1 1/2" and strips of 1 1/2". I'm now saving the squares neatly by size in smaller containers.  Hopefully this will give me workable pieces for a future scrappy quilt project.

Here is how all those scraps have been collecting----

As I work on projects scraps are tossed into a large bin. This is a really helpful practice. It never fails, even when your sure everything is cut out, something gets missed. It seems I always need to dig out a little something.  Sometimes its something I missed,  to replace something that was damaged, for the label or maybe a size change. I know my big bin holds the possibilities for matching fabrics. When the bin fills (every few months or several projects) larger pieces are folded up and go back by color into larger fabric containers.

Smaller pieces are sorted by color into 1 gallon plastic containers.
I think I have (had!!!) about a ten. These are the scrap containers I've been working with for that type of storage. And, these are what I'm working with for this new project.
